SUMMER 2017
Andrew Luck acquired by Fight'n Nut-Tooths
Article Posted Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern

The first blockbuster deal of the 2017 season has been finalized. The defending champion Morristown Maulers cleared up their quarterback controversy by trading Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and New York Jets running back Bilal Powell to Joseph Randall's Fight'n Nut-Tooths Tuesday, July 18, in exchange for Tennessee Titans running back DeMarco Murray and a pair of selections in the upcoming UFFL draft.

The 27-year-old Luck had 4,240 passing yards in 15 games last season, with 31 touchdowns and 13 interceptions, and added 341 rushing yards with two rushing touchdowns. Dallas Honeycutt, the owner of the Maulers, had Luck and Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr on his roster and had been attempting this offseason to trade one of the players while keeping the other. If no deal had been completed prior to the draft, there is an excellent chance that two of the Maulers' three franchise players would have been quarterbacks.

Powell, 28, averaged 5.5 yards per carry and reached the end zone nine times in 2016, during what turned out to be the best statistical season of his career. He rushed for 722 yards and added 58 receptions for 388 yards despite only starting four of the Jets' 16 games.

Murray, 29, bounced back from a disastrous 2015 campaign with the Philadelphia Eagles, collecting 1,287 rushing yards, 377 receiving yards and 12 combined touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Honeycutt immediately named Murray as one of his three franchise player selections in advance of the draft.

The Morristown Maulers will also receive a second-round pick (19th overall) and a fifth-round pick (66th overall) in the 2017 draft. Recent selections with the No. 19 pick have included former Tennessee Titans running back Bishop Sankey, Oakland Raiders wide receiver Amari Cooper and Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry, while recent selections with the No. 66 pick have included former San Diego Chargers running back Danny Woodhead, former New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount and Houston Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt.

In a corresponding move to clear roster space, the Nut-Tooths waived Chicago Bears running back Jeremy Langford. The 25-year-old had 200 rushing yards, 142 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 12 games last season.

UFFL News and Notes: July Edition
Article Posted Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern

With the start of the Ultimate Fantasy Football League's 16th season less than two months away, owners were sent copies of the annual questionnaire Saturday, July 8, in order to make necessary adjustments for the 2017 campaign. As of this writing, commissioner Jared Byrd and six of the remaining 13 owners (Craig Hoffman, Dallas Honeycutt, Mozelle Meyers, George Thomas, Steve Ungrey and Angie Williams) had officially announced their intention to return - or in Ungrey's case, the intention to begin competing this year. The other seven owners had not submitted responses.

Aside from several potential scoring rule changes involving individual defensive players (IDPs for short), the league is expected to operate under the same guidelines as last season. Here are the three proposals currently being voted on for IDPs:

a. Solo tackles for IDPs could be increased from 0.5 fantasy points to 1 fantasy point. (Last season, solo tackles were worth 0.5 fantasy points, while assisted tackles were worth nothing.)

b. Sacks for IDPs could be increased from 1 fantasy point to 3 fantasy points. (They were worth 3 points each from 2004 to 2007 and 1 point last season.)

c. Passes defended for IDPs could be increased from 0 fantasy points to 1 fantasy point. (They were worth 1 point each from 2004 to 2007 but worth nothing in 2016.)

Owners who have not submitted completed questionnaires are encouraged to do so as soon as possible. A link to the survey can be found on the league's Yahoo! Groups message board.

The live draft will be held Wednesday, Aug. 30, at 9:30 p.m. on the Fleaflicker website. The chat room will open 30 minutes prior to the start of the draft and remain open as long as at least one owner is present after the event ends. More information and reminders about the draft will be distributed as the date draws closer.

UFFL News Ticker: The survival football and NFL pickem contests on Yahoo! Fantasy Sports are expected to open for registration before the end of the month. As soon as both competitions are ready, information for signing up will be e-mailed to all UFFL owners and posted on this website ... The Fantasy Hockey Challenge league has already been renewed for the 2017-18 season and the Fantasy Basketball Challenge league will be renewed shortly as well. There is one opening anticipated in each league to replace owners who appear to have abandoned their clubs. If you are interested in joining either league (or both leagues), e-mail commissioner Jared Byrd at jared259@alumni.upenn.edu.

WINTER 2016
UFFL News and Notes: February Edition
Article Posted Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern

The Ultimate Fantasy Football League has found a replacement owner for former Renegade owner Tony DelSignore.

Steve Ungrey, who has been a participant in the Fantasy Baseball Challenge league on Fleaflicker since the 2015 season, has agreed to join the UFFL. As a result of being located in Michigan, the franchise will be relocated from the Southern Division to the Northern Division, with the Pulverizers moving to the South.

UFFL News Ticker: As expected, the UFFL was renewed for its 16th season on Fleaflicker earlier this week, meaning that teams are now allowed to resume making trades. A preliminary 2017 regular-season schedule has been created and the live draft has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 9:30 p.m. Eastern. No rule changes are set to be announced now but owners will have a chance to make their suggestions be heard when the annual questionnaire is distributed via e-mail this summer.

Tony DelSignore departs UFFL
Article Posted Thursday, Feb. 2, 2017 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern; Updated Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. Eastern

Approximately one month after leading the Southern Division to victory in the ninth-annual UFFL Pro Bowl, Renegade owner Tony DelSignore has announced that he is leaving the Ultimate Fantasy Football League on amicable terms, citing a desire to dedicate less time to fantasy sports. He simultaneously announced that he will not be participating in the 2017 Fantasy Baseball Challenge on Fleaflicker.

In six UFFL seasons, DelSignore went 52-37-0 (.584), going 48-30-0 in 78 regular-season contests and 4-7-0 in 11 postseason games. He reached the UFFL Bowl during his rookie campaign in 2010 before stepping away for the 2011 season, only to return to action in 2012 as the owner of a different franchise. He made a second appearance in the championship game following the 2015 season but came up short in a closely-contested battle versus N2deep.

During his final season, he set league records for most regular-season victories (12) and fantasy points (2,001.79) accumulated in a single year, although this set the stage for a devastating loss in the first round of the playoffs against HB2 Defiance. However, this year's Pro Bowl victory allowed DelSignore to exit on a high note and gain redemption for a loss in the 2014 Pro Bowl.

It is currently unknown who will replace DelSignore in either league but a UFFL replacement is unlikely to happen before the league is renewed on the Fleaflicker website later this month. If you or someone you know would be interested in filling these vacancies, please e-mail commissioner Jared Byrd at jared259@alumni.upenn.edu.

More on the Pro Bowl: The Southern Division defeated the Northern Division by the score of 136.54 to 106.09 in the Pro Bowl, allowing the South to improve their all-time record to 7-2-0 in the game. The winners were led by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who went 27-for-36 with 331 passing yards and four touchdowns, accumulating 37.44 fantasy points along the way. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers led all players in a losing effort with 42.20 fantasy points, going 27-for-39 with 300 passing yards and four touchdowns.

UFFL News Ticker: bbashers owner Calvin Brown was named the winner of the 2016 UFFL Postseason Challenge on NFL.com for the second year in a row, racking up 751 fantasy points over the four-week duration of the contest ... Pulverizers owner Jared Byrd was named the winner of the UFFL Pickem Challenge on Yahoo! Sports, with 177 correct picks out of 267 combined NFL regular-season and postseason games (66% accuracy).

... They have done it.
Article Posted Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 at 12:00 a.m. Eastern; Updated Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 at 11:00 p.m. Eastern

For the second time in the last three seasons, Dallas Honeycutt and the Morristown Maulers have won the UFFL championship. They defeated HB2 Defiance by the score of 131.90 to 116.83 in UFFL Bowl XV, thanks to 288 passing yards and three touchdown passes from Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (30.72 fantasy points), as well as 177 receiving yards and a touchdown from Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin (28.15 fantasy points).

As the sixth seed in the championship bracket after posting a 7-6-0 mark during the regular season, the Morristown Maulers pulled off improbable upsets against the Fight'n Nut-Tooths (No. 3 seed) and The Catch (No. 2 seed) in order to reach the title game. With the victory in the UFFL Bowl, the Maulers were able to exact revenge for a loss to HB2 Defiance in Week 9, where they fell 145.00 to 125.69.

"I would love to say that this was expected and I planned all year for a late season charge, but in truth, the league just kind of fell into my lap with all of the upsets during the late season and playoffs," Honeycutt wrote in a post on the Fleaflicker message board Wednesday, Dec. 28.

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy (24.65 fantasy points) contributed 145 rushing yards and a touchdown in a losing effort for Grace Cloud's team, which entered the postseason as the eighth and final seed in the championship bracket despite posting a losing record in the regular season (6-7-0).

UFFL Bowl XV: Morristown Maulers vs. HB2 Defiance
Article Posted Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern; Updated Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Eastern

Two Southern Division rivals will square off against each other in UFFL Bowl XV, in a wacky, improbable postseason which has seen an unusually high number of upsets.

The Morristown Maulers, coached by Dallas Honeycutt, entered the playoffs as the sixth seed in the championship bracket after posting a 7-6-0 regular-season record. They upset the Fight'n Nut-Tooths (No. 3 seed) and The Catch (No. 2 seed) in the first two rounds after losing to both clubs during the regular season. Honeycutt is in his third year as a UFFL owner and will be making his second appearance in the title game, having defeated Deltaman in 2014 to win UFFL Bowl XIII. He has a lifetime record of 26-20-0 (21-18-0 in the regular season and 5-2-0 in the playoffs).

HB2 Defiance clinched the eighth and final seed in this year's championship bracket despite having a losing regular-season record (6-7-0). However, they proved their mettle by pulling off major upsets against first-seeded Renegade and fifth-seeded N2deep en route to reaching the UFFL Bowl. Interestingly, Grace Cloud's team faced Renegade and N2deep in the final two weeks of the regular season, losing to the former and defeating the latter. Cloud is 93-78-0 (77-67-0 in the regular season and 16-11-0 in the playoffs) through 11 UFFL seasons and won the league's first championship in 2002; she also participated in UFFL Bowl X but lost to the Pulverizers in 2011.

The Morristown Maulers and HB2 Defiance met in Week 9 of the regular season, with Cloud's squad winning by a score of 145.00 to 125.69.

In other Week 16 matchups ...

(5) N2deep vs. (2) The Catch (Championship Bracket)
In the last four weeks, N2deep has defeated the bbashers twice (including once in the championship bracket) and lost to HB2 Defiance twice (including once in the championship bracket). They will be facing The Catch in the UFFL's third-place game but are hoping for results that are far different than Week 3's outcome, when they lost by 85.98 fantasy points (163.70-87.72).

(10) Deltaman vs. (9) Football Gal (Consolation Bracket)
This matchup pits UFFL charter owners Craig Hoffman and Mozelle Meyers against each other for a rematch of a Week 1 game which saw Football Gal win by the score of 113.96 to 106.44. As the top two seeds in the consolation bracket, both franchises received first-round byes but lost their second-round matches to the Pulverizers and CheeseWhiz, respectively.

(12) CheeseWhiz vs. (11) Pulverizers (Consolation Bracket)
These two clubs squared off against one another in Week 13, with CheeseWhiz winning by the score of 149.59 to 131.45. However, it's the only game that the Pulverizers have lost in the last five weeks; they have since defeated The Steel Curtain and Deltaman in the consolation bracket. Meanwhile, CheeseWhiz was victorious against the Steph Infections and Football Gal to reach this point.

By virtue of losing in the first round of the postseason, the following teams are idle for Week 16: the bbashers, the Fight'n Nut-Tooths, Renegade, the Shelburn OrangeHats, the Steph Infections and The Steel Curtain.

Possible defensive changes in store: One possible rule change for the 2017 UFFL season could involve individual defensive players. Currently, they receive 0.5 fantasy points for every solo tackle they make and no points at all for assisted tackles, leading to very low point totals overall. These figures are likely to be bumped up to one point for each solo tackle and 0.5 points for every assisted tackle. At this point, it is unknown if the point totals for other statistical categories will remain unchanged.

This and other potential adjustments will be discussed in further detail during the offseason as part of the annual owners' questionnaire. If you have an idea for a rule change, send it to commissioner Jared Byrd at jared259@alumni.upenn.edu.

NFL Playoff Challenge registration is open: Registration for the Ultimate Fantasy Football League: Postseason Edition contest on NFL.com will remain open until first-round playoff games get underway Saturday, Jan. 7. So far, Hoffman and Meyers have pledged to return for another year. The contest is structured similarly to a daily fantasy sports pool, where it's possible for multiple owners to have the same players, although there are no transaction limits or salary caps to worry about when constructing lineups. In addition to players' raw performance scores, multiplier bonuses are awarded to owners who keep the same players in their lineups for several weeks.

The game will run through Super Bowl LI, although owners won't be able to fill out their lineups until after the NFL regular season has ended and the postseason picture has been clarified. To enter, click here. If prompted, the group name is UFFL and the group password is playoffs.

UFFL Pro Bowl alert: The ninth-annual UFFL Pro Bowl will take place during the 17th week of the NFL regular season (Sunday, Jan. 1). Andrew So (The Catch) is expected to serve as the head coach of the Northern Division, with Tony DelSignore (Renegade) expected to lead the Southern Division squad. Both coaches were selected based on the fact that their clubs scored the most fantasy points in their respective divisions during the UFFL regular season. Ballots will be distributed to So and DelSignore via e-mail no later than Tuesday, Dec. 27, with a deadline for starting lineups to be submitted by Friday, Dec. 30, at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

UFFL News Ticker: Interestingly, the first round of this year's championship bracket included four owners who had never won a UFFL title facing four owners who had won before. In each instance, the owner who had won a previous title emerged victorious ... Joseph Randall became the winner of the 2016 survival football contest, after Meyers, Randall and George Thomas incorrectly predicted the winner of a Week 16 NFL game after having already accumulated two strikes each. Randall and Meyers picked the Tennessee Titans to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars, while Thomas selected the San Diego Chargers to beat the Cleveland Browns. Since going to the three-strike format in 2011, this is the latest point in the season that the contest has ended.

AUTUMN 2016

Examining the UFFL playoff picture
Article Posted Friday, Dec. 9, 2016 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern; Updated Monday, Dec. 12, 2016 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern
Now that the regular season is over, let's take a closer look at the teams that will be (and will not be) competing for the 2016 UFFL championship:

Championship Bracket:
Six of the league's seven Southern Division clubs made the championship bracket, thanks to strong showings against the Northern Division throughout the regular season. In fact, the teams that were tied for last place in the South were just one game under .500 (6-7-0).

The most impressive regular-season performance, by far, came from top-seeded Renegade (12-1-0), who set a UFFL record with regular-season victories in a single campaign and entered the playoffs with an 11-game winning streak. In addition, their 2,001.79 fantasy points shattered the single-season regular-season record, previously held by the 2010 bbashers. The Catch (10-3-0), who wound up with the second overall seed, became the only other club to post double-digit victories, while the third-seeded Fight'n Nut-Tooths (9-4-0) were the only Northern Division team other than The Catch to post a winning regular-season record in 2016.

The bbashers (8-5-0) clinched the fourth overall seed, even though owner Calvin Brown posted a career high in regular-season losses since joining the league on a full-time basis for the 2008 season. However, he still possesses a career regular-season record of 90-27-0 (.769) through nine UFFL campaigns. Fifth-seeded N2deep (7-6-0), the sixth-seeded Morristown Maulers (7-6-0) and the seventh-seeded Shelburn OrangeHats (7-6-0) earned identical records during the regular season, although they took different paths to get there; N2deep won six of their last eight games entering the postseason, while the Maulers dropped four of their last five and the OrangeHats lost five of their last seven. Last but not least, HB2 Defiance (6-7-0) snapped a three-game losing streak to secure the final berth in the championship bracket.

Interestingly, all but two of this year's competitors for the coveted UFFL crown did not join the league until after the move from Yahoo! Fantasy Sports to Fleaflicker Fantasy Sports in 2008. Four of the eight have never won a title, while the others are hoping to win for the second time in league history. Another statistical oddity about the championship bracket: although seven of the eight teams that qualified had winning records, four of the clubs allowed more fantasy points than they scored (the bbashers, Morristown Maulers, Shelburn OrangeHats and HB2 Defiance).

Consolation Bracket: Of the six franchises that found their way into the consolation bracket, five are run by people who were part of the league's original 12-team ownership group back in 2002 (Jared Byrd, Jim Douglas, Stephanie George, Craig Hoffman and Mozelle Meyers). Also noteworthy is the fact that the bottom five clubs were all from the Northern Division. Ninth-seeded Football Gal (6-7-0) and 10th-seeded Deltaman (5-8-0) both earned first-round byes and will begin postseason competition next week, while the 11th through 14th seeds will start play immediately. As is the case with the championship bracket, losing clubs in the first-round will be finished for the remainder of the playoffs.

While Football Gal ended the 2016 regular season with the same record as HB2 Defiance, the latter team's better divisional record allowed it to clinch the final spot in the championship bracket. Similarly, the Pulverizers (5-8-0) missed out on a first-round postseason bye despite having an identical regular-season record to Deltaman due to a poorer divisional record. CheeseWhiz (4-9-0), the Steph Infections (3-10-0) and The Steel Curtain (2-11-0) round out the consolation bracket and they will have the third, second and first picks overall in the 2017 draft respectively, barring any offseason trades.

UFFL News Ticker: The trade deadline came and went without any deals being finalized, although the Fight'n Nut-Tooths attempted to complete a last-minute swap with the Pulverizers. The Nut-Tooths offered New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa and a first-round selection in the 2017 draft to the Pulverizers, in exchange for New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., but the proposal was turned down ... Registration for the Ultimate Fantasy Football League: Postseason Edition contest will get underway later this month. When the game becomes available, e-mail notifications will be sent out to last year's participants and newcomers will be able to take part through links on the Fleaflicker and Yahoo! Groups message boards ... Potential question ideas for the 2017 UFFL questionnaire can be sent to commissioner Jared Byrd at jared259@alumni.upenn.edu. However, the questionnaire is unlikely to be distributed until next summer ... Trades will be unable to be made until Feb. 14, 2017, when the Fleaflicker website is activated for the 2017 season. At that point, the preliminary regular-season scheduled for next year will also be unveiled, along with the draft order.

UFFL News and Notes: November Edition
Article Posted Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern; Updated Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern
With just three weeks remaining before the Ultimate Fantasy Football League playoffs get underway, trade talks and rumors have been virtually nonexistent. In fact, this is the first year since 2008 where no in-season trades were executed during the first half of the UFFL regular season.

As of this writing, only one franchise (Renegade, 9-1-0) has clinched a berth in the eight-team championship bracket and no teams have been eliminated entirely, although it is now mathematically impossible for eight clubs to win their own division. These slivers of hope may be preventing some franchises from going into "fire sale mode" right away, with the trade deadline set for Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 6:00 a.m. Eastern.

In a recent post on the UFFL's Fleaflicker message board, Morristown Maulers owner Dallas Honeycutt said he was willing to listen to trade offers involving quarterbacks Derek Carr (Oakland Raiders) and Andrew Luck (Indianapolis Colts). He is looking for a stud running back or wide receiver in return but is leaning toward needing help at running back more.

In other news, the Pulverizers offered Cleveland Browns tight end Gary Barnidge to the Shelburn OrangeHats in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2017 UFFL draft. However, the trade proposal was rejected by OrangeHats owner Mark Bender Saturday, Nov. 26.

We're back!

The Ultimate Fantasy Football League website is back up and running after being unavailable for several days due to maintenance performed on the servers of the web host (Angelfire). The outage lasted from Friday, Oct. 28 to Monday, Oct. 31 and also temporarily prevented the site from being updated while offline. However, things are back to normal and viewers should notice very little difference between how the website performed before the outage and now.

UFFL News and Notes: September Edition
Article Posted Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern
Effective with Week 2 of the UFFL/NFL regular season, individual defensive players began earning one fantasy point for every two solo tackles they recorded. This rule was already in effect for offensive players such as quarterbacks, running backs, wide receivers, tight ends and placekickers (but not team defenses) and was intended to go into effect at the beginning of this year for IDPs as well, but went unnoticed due to an oversight. Currently, assisted tackles are not worth anything for any player regardless of position, although this could change for the 2017 campaign.

In addition, IDPs began receiving two fantasy points for every fumble recovery starting in Week 2. Due to the fact that both rule changes were set to take place in the middle of a season, league owners discussed the matter on the Fleaficker message board and through e-mail for several days before adjustments were made, so that everyone involved had a heads-up and wouldn't be caught off guard by any fixes. Those who participated voted unanimously for the changes to happen.

UFFL News Ticker: The Sisyphean Endeavors have changed their team nickname to HB2 Defiance ... CheeseWhiz owner Jim Douglas recently announced that he is in search of help at running back. He is willing to part with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz or New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady depending on the offer ... Immediately prior to the start of early Sunday afternoon games for Week 3, several of the Fleaflicker website's features became temporarily unavailable, including the league scoreboard and all pages related to the Steph Infections franchise. As a result, commissioner Jared Byrd had to manually edit Stephanie George's starting lineup because she was unable to. The glitch affected random teams in other Fleaflicker leagues as well but was rectified in about an hour ... Due to time constraints, most pages on this website will not be updated on a consistent basis throughout the regular season and playoffs (with the exception of the transactions page, schedule and results page, standings page, rankings page, NFL pickem page and survival results page. Franchise pages will only be updated to reflect current rosters but all other statistics and information on those pages will be updated at season's end.
